What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?
Live Scan Fingerprinting is an inkless electronic fingerprinting. The
fingerprints of the applicant are scanned electronically by a Department
of Justice (DOJ) certified operator and upon completion are transmitted via
a DOJ certified software to the terminal of the California Department
of Justice (DOJ) and then (if required) to the Federal Bureau of Investigation
(FBI). The DOJ / FBI upon receiving the fingerprints of applicant will
in turn conduct a criminal background check of the fingerprinted applicant.
The result will be sent from the DOJ to the requesting agency electronically
or via regular mail. The Dept. of Justice is the primary coordinator of the
submitted fingerprints
How long does the fingerprinting process take?
The live scan fingerprinting process can take from 10 minutes up to 30 minutes
depending on the clear fingers impression of the fingerprinted applicant.
However, the criminal background record search can take from three (3) to
five (5) working days depending on the agency requesting your fingerprints
background search and possibly up to 12 weeks.
Please note, once we inform you that your fingerprints was transmitted
successfully, please direct all of your future inquiries to the agency or
employer who requested your background check.
How can I check the status of my fingerprints
background check?
Please allow a minimum of seven days before making a status inquiry. Applicants
should check first with the agency that requested the background review since
the Department of Justice sends results directly to the applicant agency.
Requests that require the manual processing of criminal history information,
such as those involving pre-1945 cases, also may delay the reporting of results.
24-hour Automated Telephone Service Available: 916-227-4557. If a requesting
agency does not have results yet and digital Live Scan fingerprints were
submitted, you can use the automated telephone system to check on your
submission. You will need the following information: (1) your date of birth;
and (2) the 10-digit Automated Transaction Identifier (ATI) number that appears
at the bottom of the Department of Justice form requesting Live Scan fingerprint
background checks. The ATI number always appears in the following sequence:
1 LETTER; 3 NUMBERS; 3 LETTERS and 3 NUMBERS. G767FTC200. (Source DOJ).
I was informed by the Requesting Agency that my
fingerprints submission was rejected. What is your policy on the resubmission
of my fingerprints?
Your fingerprints live scan will be resubmitted for the second time at
no additional charge to you. An appointment is preferred, please call
(323)349-0860 to schedule an appointment. You need to bring your ID and the
rejection letter with you.
How much does it cost?
The fee for live scan fingerprinting depends on the level of service. In
addition to the DOJ and rolling fee, your requesting agency might ask for
the FBI background check or other type of service and search. Your total
fee depends on the level of service, and it will be disclosed to you before
your fingerprints are scanned and transmitted.
Who pays for the fee?
If your employer has an account with us and the applicant has an
authorization to bill the employer's account, then your employer will cover
the fee. Otherwise, the fingerprinted applicant will shoulder the fee.
What do I bring with me to the Fingerprinting
Site?
